England: Day 14

Today we went to Mary Arden's (William Shakespeare's Mother) House and to Stratford upon Avon, where Shakespeare was born and died. It was an interesting 2 hour drive there. The second I fell asleep on the coach I woke up to us coming to a sudden stop on the highway. When I looked out the window I saw a cute little blue car spinning out of control on the wrong side of the road and continue to drive backwards up onto a median. Apparently the blue car tried to merge into our lane a little too soon and got clipped by our bus, which sent them flying. Thankfully, everyone was just shaken and no one was hurt. After the short delay in our trip we finally made it to Mary Arden's house and then to Stratford. Shakespeare's mother's house wasn't that interesting, but while in Stratford we got to see the room where he was supposedly born, where he attended school, and his grave.

House where William was born.

Haha.

This is the school that Shakespeare attened as a boy. It is still in use today... very old.

First edition King James Bible.

Our tour guide, Russel, talking about the Bible. Apparently it is believed that Shakespeare helped edit it. The first word in Psalm 47 is "Shake", the first word in the 47th verse is "Spear", and Shakespeare was 47 when the book was published...

William Shakespeare is buried on the right and his wife, Anne Hathaway, on the left.
On his grave someone wrote, "Good friend for Jesus sake forebeare/ To digg the dust enclosed in heare/ Bleste be the man that spares the stones/ And curst be he that moves my bones".
In Shakespeare's time it was common to dig up the bones of the dead, but because of the curse written on his tomb, no one have ever bothered his grave.
